Student Teaching in Southeast Asia
Elizabeth is “studying at KMBC to prepare for teaching and reaching out cross-culturally,” so she loved the idea of combining those two passions! She said that,”this opportunity excited me!”
Elliott’s goal was to teach in Southeast Asia for two months and teach in two different primary schools. While she was there, she had the opportunity to teach for the first time in a completely different culture. When asked about that experience, she stated, “Although it was an adventure to learn how to teach a classroom of energetic second graders, I loved it. I was far out of my comfort zone, but He reminded me that it was all about Him and not about me.” God was able to stretch and mold Elizabeth in amazing ways!
As an overview of the entire experience, Elizabeth told us, “During my time in Asia, I fell in love with teaching. There were many challenges. For one, I was teaching for my first time in a completely different culture. Also, my students and I did not speak the same first language… I could have become frustrated over these issues, but God helped me to trust Him, be creative, and push through. I even left Asia with a bigger heart for my students and teaching. I learned in a deeper way that He is enough for me!”
We’re thankful for Elizabeth’s heart for God as well the the passion He’s instilled in her to teach! At KMBC, we’re confident in our students’ abilities and love seeing them put what they’ve learned here into practice! If Elizabeth’s story sticks out to you, why not check out the Elementary Education program and the Intercultural Studies program!
